Hi, I’m Mary.

I’ve been photographing weddings and portraits professionally since 2010, and I’m still drawn to the same thing I was in the beginning: people being completely themselves.

I love the beautiful portrait where everything comes together, but I’m just as interested in the laugh immediately afterward, the expression on someone’s face across the room, and the people you’ll be grateful to see in your photos years from now. I’m an avid genealogist, so I probably think about that last part more than most people. Photos have a funny way of becoming more valuable with time.

My approach is documentary-first, with plenty of help when you need it. I’ll give you direction, find good light, organize the family, and make sure you don’t feel awkward wondering what to do with your hands. Then, when something real is happening, I get out of the way and pay attention.

Before taking Mary Cyrus Photography full time in 2014, I was Head of Photography for Earthbound Trading Company. These days, I live in the Piney Woods of Northeast Texas with my husband, our son, and two Great Danes. When I’m not behind a camera, there’s a good chance I’m working in our orchard, reading fantasy, watching sci-fi, playing Celtic fiddle, or making very slow progress on learning the mandolin. My playlists can jump from Bob Wills to Megan Thee Stallion without warning.

​I like that photography gives me a reason to keep meeting people I might never have crossed paths with otherwise, and some of my favorite client relationships have grown well beyond the session or wedding day. I’m so glad you found your way here.
