My job has quite a few perks, and one of them is getting to see beautiful parts of the world when I travel to photograph destination weddings! Mallory and Mike were gracious enough to bring me along to document their wedding at the Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya resort in Tulum, Mexico, near Cancun. I woke up to the most stunning sunsets over the rainforest each day of my stay at the resort, which I thoroughly enjoyed with a room service breakfast on my balcony, and I spent what free time I had reading a good book in a hammock near the beach. I can think of much worse ways to spend my time before and after shooting a wedding! Getting ready in separate suites, Mallory and Mike each had a good morning with their best friends and siblings. Mike and his groomsmen launched into a light saber battle while "getting ready" (using that term loosely, since the dudes always seem to have so much more free time before the ceremony), which of course had to be documented! For their First Look, I took Mallory and Mike to the hidden little grove near the beach where I'd been hanging out in a hammock with my book the previous day. It was the perfect little secluded spot for a private First Look in an otherwise busy resort! Their ceremony took place on the resort's beach, with their closest friends and family in attendance, and admittedly quite a few other resort guests watching from the fringes of the ceremony area, but hey, everyone loves to celebrate a wedding! Following our portraits on the beach and among the tropical foliage, we proceeded to their outdoor reception site on a brilliantly green lawn in the middle of the resort. They partied late into the night with the help of steak, cake, tequila, a piñata, pyrotechnics and Darude's Sandstorm!
